BESIX recently concluded an agreement with PFO Africa, its partner and developer in this project, to carry out the civil engineering works for a drinking water treatment plant. This project was designed and supervised by Veolia, and will strengthen the drinking water supply to the city of Abidjan in the Ivory Coast.
Located on the road to Grand Alépé, a town 40 kilometres north of Abidjan, this plant will treat water from the river Mé for the inhabitants of the country's main city.
BESIX will start the earthworks before the end of October 2018. All work should be completed in December 2020.
BESIX's first major project in West Africa fits well with its corporate purpose of excelling in creating sustainable solutions for a better world. This water treatment plant will be one of the largest in West Africa, with a capacity of nearly 240,000 m³ of drinking water per day.
"This project, with a price tag of around 45 million euros, will mark a real improvement in the living conditions of the people of the region of Abidjan, given the problem of water supply in this region", says Cédric Marchand, Country Manager BESIX in the Ivory Coast.
BESIX will construct the plant and intake sites, with earthworks, special foundation works, and all civil engineering works up to and including roads and other networks. Veolia will carry out the water treatment process works.
