Pilbara Marine Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fortescue Metals Group, has awarded the contract for the design and construction of the Marine Infrastructure for Tug Facilities at Port Hedland, Western Australia, to BESIX in joint venture with Decmil Australia Pty Ltd (Decmil Besix JV).
The project will start immediately with the detailed engineering of the marine infrastructure and is anticipated to be completed in 2018. This award is the second marine contract in the resources sector for BESIX in Australia and builds on the experience gained during the successful delivery of the breakwater and Material Offloading Facility for the Wheatstone Project near Onslow, Western Australia.
